Moses Mabhida Stadium
2010 World Cup Stadiums – Moses Mabhida Stadium (Durban)
The Moses Mabhida Stadium lies on the outskirts of Durban, a few minutes away from KwaZulu Natal’s warm coastline and incredible beaches. It was reported by a local newspaper that 4 of the countries participating in the 2010 FIFA World Cup have already confirmed that KwaZulu Natal will be their base for the duration of the tournament. So for people hoping for a chance to bump into the players outside of the stadiums, this is the place to be. There has also been talk of transforming an entire stretch of the Durban beachfront in to a world cup fan zone.
As with all of the other newly constructed stadiums, the Moses Mabhida stadium is intended to have a life after the 2010 FIFA World Cup. South African officials are even looking in to increase the capacity of the stadium from 70 000 to 84 000 so that it could host events like the Olympics or Commonwealth Games.
